Great write-up of the story at http://www.collegelax.us/news/2008/02/03/gophers-lead-umll-action-early/
We played VERY well... it was apparent that we've been practicing 3-4 x per week all year. I'm really excited at our potential for this season, as we might well have the best team the U of M has ever seen. Even our new goalie, who had to step in when our old one had to quit for academic reasons, played out of his mind after just 3 weeks of goalie training.
The entire conference is looking awfully strong this year. If anyone can make it out to some UMLL games this year (closest venues would be Milwaukee Marquette or Steven's Point / Eau Claire) I would highly recommend it.

Was the goalie that droped for academic reasons Aaron, Stoughton's old goalie, in like 2004. Or did he drop even the year before then? I remember he said he might not be able to play, but he said he was attack for a while, then filled in goalie or something. I cant remember his last name but its Aaron something. Shorter, tubby, short hair... yeah, its been a few years since I've seen him.

The goalie that left the team is named Phil Hutchenson, from Apple Valley H.S. in MN.

It's growing on me, my friend. Most of the poles wear something in the 50-range, and the new #2 is playing lights-out. I'm happy.

You should be pumped--2 is a bomb number. Unfortunately for me, Alex Eckstein, a Duluth transfer, snagged it. Can't blame him.

I now understand why Duluth was so impressive in the fall, coming in on a preseason ranking of 4 in the nation, I'm not ashamed to admit they were beating our starters 6-3 at halftime.

As for us, we are scrimmaging good ole Lindenwood (#11) today at four, at their field, Ill let everyone know how it goes.

The scary thing is that this might be an "off year" for Duluth, as they're without 2 All-America middies and an All-America defensman from last season.

Well heres the story about our Lindenwood game.

Unfortunately about 25 seconds into the game we lost our quarterback, all star attackmen from Saint Johns. After he proceeded to dance their entire defense, a pretty uncontrolled slide came from a Lindenwood defenseman and knocked him out on the spot. He had no clue where he was, what he was doing, and was taken to the hospital.

We played starters for most of the first half, after that they didnt touch the field unless our EMO unit was out. I think Lindenwood ended up winning 6-4, but starters vs starters for four quarters would have been no contest. Anyway, idk if you 'Sota guys play them this year, but if you do heres who to look out for:

Middie #13 Coursalt. He is a big strong middie who has a great shot and basically QB's their entire offense.

Middie #23 "The Canuck" No clue what his name is, but he is small, fast, and loves to sweep the box from up to.

Defense #8 Andrew "Fuzzy" Schroeder. Big strong defenseman, not the best feet, but a good stick, and hard slide.

Thats about it, their attack was average, but their goaltending was pretty solid.

Sorry to hear about the injury, hopefully that concussion subsides by the time league play begins. Do you guys scrimmage any other MCLA squads this spring?

Lindenwood isn't on our schedule this year...we essentially replaced them with Colorado State and Boston College, touch match-ups nevertheless.

I remember #23 from last year when we played Lindenwood. He only really had one hand since he was Canadian, but was still very impressive. He was a good dodger and was amazing at stickhandling in traffic (probably a result of playing lots of box lax). I'm also almost certain that he was an All-American last year.

Also, I saw the first half of the Duluth vs Mankato game tonight. Duluth's individual talent showed through, but they really never came together as a team from what I saw. Launert, their goalie, is not only athletic, but is now fundamentally sound in just about everything he does. Their attack is loaded too, but it's not too hard to see their tendencies and shut them off. The midfield had some good dodgers and decent shooters, but seemed to have no chemistry whatsoever. The cuts from the midfield were also lacking, and are usually what makes Duluth so hard to defend. Their #3 in the nation ranking was definitely deserved, but I could see them having some slip-ups this year for sure.

Lindenwood and KU tried to get us to come out to play Lindenwood for a pre-season game. They were traveling to play KU and KState had other things going on, we were the next closest team. Our coach opted us not to be stomped all over before the season started.

Our first game is against Harding, which I hear packs a huge team, tons of players, with possibilities of going DIII or DII in a few years. (Note I only heard this from someone, no legitimate source.)

We did the same thing to them last year. Played wayyy down to there level.

On a side note, we just play OWU to a 13-6 game. 19th in the nation, we could have done better. Our 3 minute non releasable stick penalty gave them 4 of those goals, and that killed us. Missing Zeis was a big drawback as well, should be interesting to see how we do against Denison next week.

UWEC beat MS-Moorhead 12-6. We played well at times, but overall I think we all know we could've done better.

Congrats to Minnesota, from watching the first half it looked like you guys were going to start putting Missouri State away.

Played Western Mich. at 6 am this morning, winning 12-8. We were missing several important players, which absolutely affected the outcome of the game. Could have played better, in my opinion, but alas, we're 6-0.
