Week Two Updates:

I know that most teams have yet to play as of yet, though as this does officially signify the end of the first week of games, I will give an update on my thoughts regarding the top teams in state.

1. Marquette (1-0)
2. Sun Prairie (0-0)
3. Middleton (0-0)
4. Arrowhead (1-0)
5. Waunakee (0-1)
6. Wausau (0-0)
7. Kettle Moraine (1-1)
8. Milw. Eastside (0-0)
9. Bayport (1-0)
10. Verona (0-0)

Justification:
1. Marquette - (previous #2) - Big time victory over Kettle Moraine with the offense showing much improvement as they put up 12 goals, while the defense held the lasers to just one goal until the fourth quarter.
2. Sun Prairie - (previous #1) - Next game Arpil 14 against Waunakee.
3. Middleton - (previous #3) - Game against Lane Tech (Ill) cancelled. Next game April 10 at Sauk Prairie
4. Arrowhead - (previous #6) - While I had doubts going into the season, a strong defensive outing for most of the game in a 10-9 victory over Waunakee bumps them up in the polls this week.
5. Waunakee - (previous #4) - The Warriors drop a spot this week, though they played Arrowhead tough all the way through the fourth quarter.
6. Wausau - (previous #7) - Next game April 12 at Stoughton.
7. Kettle Moraine - (previous #5) - Following a decent 9-2 victory over Janesville, the Lasers got handed a rough 12-4 loss to a strong Marquette team.
8. Milw Eastside - (previous #8 ) - Next game April 11 vs. Arrowhead.
9. Bayport - (previous #10) - A decent 14-6 over a weaker Green Bay SW.
10. Verona - (previous #9) - Next game April 10 at Madison Memorial.

Sorry about that. Laxpower has Wausau scheduled to play both Janesville (Home) and Stoughton (Away) on Saturday...I'm not sure what's up with that.

Correction: Janesville will no longer play Stoughton tomorrow, but be rescheduled for Saturday in janesville. The Wausau game was postponed due to the weather and Wausau's drive down is not enough cause incase of a bad weather.

Kettle Moraine's mascot is the LASERS, no "Z" just for clarification

also the previous rankings I feel are pretty accurate as of right now, Marquette is playing really well this early in the season, and Arrowhead did beat a good Waunakee team. Who/when does Sun Prairie and Middleton play their first games?

Week Three Updates

While the majority of the teams remained stagnant in my polls this week, the two major moves are Sun Prairie's drop from #2 to #8 after losing to Madison Area rival Waunakee, and Bayport's jump from #9 to #6.

Top Ten:
1. Marquette (1-0)
2. Middleton (1-0)
3. Arrowhead (1-0)
4. Waunakee (1-1)
5. Wausau (0-0)
6. Bayport (2-0)
7. Kettle Moraine (1-1)
8. Sun Prairie (0-1)
9. Milw Eastside (0-0)
10. Verona (0-0)

Justification:
1. Marquette – (Previous #1) – Following a 12-4 dismantling of Kettle Moraine last week, the Hilltoppers had the week off. Next game is tonight (4/16) against USM at their brand new field at Mt. Mary College.
2. Middleton – (Previous #3) – While many expected Middleton to be the "Hummel Show" this year, Middleton's 10-5 victory over the Madison Regents proved anything but. While Hummel did post a goal, Juniors Kyle Bonebreak (4g) and Jack Olejnik (2g), and Senior Boris Chubokov (2g) led the way for the potent but balanced Middleton offense.
3. Arrowhead – (Previous #4) – After an impressive 10-9 victory over Waunakee last week (which looks even more impressive following Waunakee’s recent success), Arrowhead also had the week off as their game scheduled against Eastside was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Next game...?
4. Waunakee – (Previous #5) – The most significant victory of the season came April 14th as the Warriors jumped all over Sun Prairie in the first half by amassing an 11-1 lead. In the second quarter, Waunakee cruised to a 13-7 victory.
5. Wausau – (Previous #6) – Another week off for Wausau. Next game 4/18 against Green Bay SW.
6. Bayport – (Previous #9) – Bayport made the biggest jump this week, as they move up three spots in the rankings this week following a 9-3 victory over Appleton. Next game is 4/19 against #1 Marquette.
7. Kettle Moraine – (Previous #7) – Following a 12-4 loss to Marquette last week, KM also had the week off. Next game 4/17 against Brookfield.
8. Sun Prairie – (Previous #2) – A disappointing week for the Cardinals as they suffered a rough 13-7 defeat to #4 Waunakee. However, a promising second half in which Sun Prairie outscored Waunakee 6-2 illustrates the Cardinals' potential for the 2008 season. Sun Prairie looks to get back on track on 4/17 against Lafollette.
9. Milw Eastside – (Previous #8 ) – Continued lack of action hurts Eastside this week, as Bayport (2-0) moves past them in the rankings. Eastside looks to get things going on 4/22 against #3 Arrowhead.
10. Verona – (Previous #10) – After the first two games of the season were cancelled, Verona looks to kick off of their season 4/17 at Stoughton.

Ever think that maybe Hummel is just the team player that people said he wasn't. You could have the biggest impact on the field and not score a goal.

I never denied that Hummel could have had a very big impact. I was not criticizing Hummel, rather, complimenting the rest of the offense who everyone on these forums seemed to ignore. Hummel is a good player, there is no denying that, though that does not mean that other people should not get recognized for their successes. From what the stats indicate, Middleton's offense appears very strong but, more importantly, balanced. This was not an insult to Hummel, just a response to many people's description of Middleton as a one man show on other threads on this forum.

I'm not sure why Marquette is 1 in everyones polls, so far they have beaten KM and USM no offense to them but not the best teams in the state, and it wasn't a blowout or anything. So far I'm not impressed, I saw the KM game and was surprised at how close it was at half.

Who else deserves to be the top team? Plus, its difficult to make serious judgements about how good a team is by basing it off of the first half of a team's first game of season. The truth be told, as neither Marquette, Arrowhead, or Middleton have played each other yet and the Waunakee-Arrowhead game came down to one goal, its kind of difficult to discern who is better right now as many of the teams appear to be of similar skill levels.

If you want justification, Marquette has played 2 games, with 2 victories. After a shaky first half in the first game of the season against KM, Marquette blew it open in the third and beat KM by eight. In the USM game, Marquette was winning and controlling the game as they rushed out to a 5-0 lead before their starting goalie was ejected. Pretty much, they have done everything asked of them.

Its going to be difficult to know who deserves to be ranked number one until the weekend of May 2- 4 -- Marquette v. Arrowhead on the 2nd and Marquette v. Middleton on the third.

Week 4:

Not much changes in the top of the polls for me, as Marquette, Middleton, Arrowhead, and Waunakee continue to roll through their schedules. As not much appears to separate these teams now, I'm excited for the weekend of May 2-4 when Marquette plays host to Arrowhead and then travels to Middleton.

Top Ten:
1. Marquette (3-0)
2. Middleton (2-0)
3. Arrowhead (2-0)
4. Waunakee (3-1)
5. Wausau (1-0)
6. Sun Prairie (3-2)
7. University School (1-1)
8. Kettle Moraine (2-1)
9. Milw Eastside (0-0)
10. Bayport (2-1)

Justification:
1. Marquette – (Previous #1) – After a rough outing in a 12-8 victory over USM, the Hilltoppers came out firing on all cylinders as they rolled to a 16-5 victory over Bayport. The offense continues to impress as they have averaged more than 13 goals a game.
2. Middleton – (Previous #2) – Middleton continues to do everything asked of them, as they pummeled Madison Memorial 21-0 on 4/17.
3. Arrowhead – (Previous #3) – Similar to Middleton, Arrowhead followed a solid victory the first week with an easy 13-0 win over Stoughton.
4. Waunakee – (Previous #4) – After an unfortunate loss to Arrowhead, Waunakee appears to be in full form with two dominating victories 9-1 over Janesville and 9-3 over Neenah.
5. Wausau – (Previous #5) – Wausau kicked off their 2008 season with an easy 12-1 win over Green Bay SW.
6. Sun Prairie – (Previous #8 ) – Following a rough first game of the season against Waunakee, Sun Prairie traveled down to Chicago this past weekend. Sun Prairie defeated Geneva (IL) 7-2 and West Chicago (IL) 3-1, though lost to Waubonsie Valley (IL) 6-5.
7. University School – (Previous Unranked) – Despite losing to #1 Marquette, USM looked impressive especially in the fourth quarter. It will be interesting to see how USM fairs against other MAYLA teams like KM - don’t be surprised to see the Wildcats notch a few quality wins throughout the year.
8. Kettle Moraine – (Previous #7) – Despite winning their only game of the week, KM did nothing to impress as they managed only a 5-4 victory over a week Brookfield team.
9. Milw Eastside – (Previous #9) – Hopefully they will actually play soon…
10. Bayport – (Previous #6) – Following two big victories in the Valley, the Pirates got roughed up by Marquette 16-5 and seemed to really struggle defensively.
